Oklahoma City Thunder (1-1) vs. Memphis Grizzlies (1-1)
Gritty, persistent, gutsy, even stubborn. The Grzzlies have been called it all this year. It was all on display Monday night in Oklahoma for the game two match-up between Memphis and OKC.
Mike Conley scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds for the Grizzlies but it was the defense of Tony Allen that gave the Thunder’s two biggest stars trouble. Allen at times was charged with defending both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Westbrook ended up with 29 points but he heaved up 28 shots to get there. Kevin Durant added 36, including a miracle 3 pointer as he was being fouled, but it still wasn’t enough as the Grizzlies won by a 111-105 score in overtime. The Thunder attempted 30 three point shots but only 9 hit the mark.
The Grizzlies did a good job slowing the Thunder’s transition game, especially early in the contest. Both teams kept coming after each other in the final minutes before overtime. It was OT that Memphis persistent paid off with the victory.
The teams, tied in the best of seven series at one game each, now travel to Memphis where the rowdy Grizzlies fans await. Tip-off for game three is at 8:00pm on Thursday.
